Just made this a week ago. Its basically a funky hip-hop tune made from Spanish rumba records mixed with snippets of hip-hop acapellas.

SRC mini mix for Fact Magazine
Posted by djpetemacleod on April 15, 2010
really impressed with this. SRC has a release out on Numbers next weekend. He describes his tunes as grime instrumentals but they are heavily overladen with 8bit vibes and really nice and chilled. Some lovely beats here

Commix @ Jungle Nation (Glasgow)
Posted by djpetemacleod on March 13, 2010
Had a really good time last night. Cool to see a big name back in Glasgow and there was a good turnout. Had forgotten how much I like dancing to dnb. Brought a mate down who isnt into his dnb at all and he liked it as well so that was good. Next stop, beatport…

DJ Cheeba at Mixed Bizness
Posted by djpetemacleod on February 20, 2010
Ended up at the Art School on a whim last Thursday. Glad I went since Bristol’s DJ Cheeba was in town. He was doing an AV set with Serato Video, decks and what looked like either a Korg or Akai MIDI controller. I think all ‘the kids’ were suitably impressed. Guess it makes a change for them from going to see ableton DJs all the time. Cheeba threw in some dnb towards the end as well as breaks, hiphop etc. Benny Boom was on hand to start and end the show as well. Solid Steel indeed.

Bullion
Posted by djpetemacleod on January 28, 2010
My friend Soosh got me into Bullion last year. He is a young producer from London who makes electronica on a psychedelic tip so no elevator music here. Lots of stuttering soulful vocal samples with nice bass as well so its right up my street. One of my favourite tracks of his is Young Heartache but he has just got a new release out this week with a tune Crazy For You which is also excellent. He is on Paul White’s label if that sways you at all.

Scratch Perverts at HYP?
Posted by djpetemacleod on January 25, 2010
well, must say that was a really good night of tunes!
Couldnt tell you much about tracks names but my mate Soosh said Boom Monk Ben was playing Joy Orbison when we came in. I haven’t seen the Subbie that busy since Chromeo in 2007 (oooft, 2007?!)
Scratch Perverts totally smashed it! Started of with dubstep and dropped Purple City, leading to wild abandon. Progressively moved into electro territory. (Plus One is 1/2 of Jack Beats). They played about 10 mins of dnb while I was in the queue. It was quite amusing though- its not like that would have been enough for their older fans so was there really any point? They’ve clearly moved on from where they started in terms of music taste. It just seemed a bit tokenistic to me. No scratching which might annoy the purists but ‘the kids’ were loving it. Anyways, what have they got left to prove in terms of scratching??
My night took a turn for the worst though when I dropped my white hoody on the sub club’s muddy toilet floor. Ooooft!
